Why does gear oil always show up green in photos?

Have you ever noticed this? I bet you haven't, because really, what sane human being is taking photos of their gears?

I snaped these photos of my new front diff, just for fun and well blogging purpouses, and noticed in all the photos it looks like there is some kind of algee growing in my axle! Then I thought about it, every photo of gear oil I have ever seen/taken has looked like there was algee growing in it. What gives? My guess is that it has something to do with the flash.

So why does gear oil look like there is pond scum growing in it when you take a photo of it?
