I have roughly 24 hours before I should be sitting down with some friends for turkey dinner, but I have about 48 hours of work just to get there. First I have to finish some magazine story stuff that needs done before this fattening vacation. Then I have to go home and get our Ultimate Tacoma ready for some 4-wheeling. This is the same orange Toyota we built back in 2004, and it's looking pretty rough these days. Plus I haven't gone over it with a wrench in over a year so who know what gremlins I'll find. Then if that doesn't take all night I also need to pack tools, spare parts, and camping gear for the trip as we'll be heading to the desert trails at Johnson Valley after we stuff ourselves with turkey and pie, so I have to be ready. Unfortunately I'll have at least a 4 to 6 hour drive just to get to dinner and then another one of equal distance on the way to the desert Friday morning, and then another 3 to 4 hour commute back home Sunday. But I'm happy to say I'll be behind the wheel of a new Dodge Mega Cab diesel dually towing the trailer and Taco, so at least I'll have a comfortable place with satellite radio to hang out for those tedious commutes. All in all it's going to be an uphill battle just to get out the door, but come Saturday afternoon when I'm creeping up some gnarly waterfall or rocky ledge with the Nitto's on the Tacoma grasping every last bit of traction available it will all be worth it.
Have a happy turkey day and be sure to get enough dirt in your diet!
