I was driving home from work the other night around 11pm when this massive 4-door Mercedes Benz Unimog (the 4-door version is called a Doka) crossed my path. I was a rat following the pied piper from there. As I was tailing it and digging for my camera the monster Mog pulled into a gas station, and I made an evasive maneuver to chase it into the parking lot. Needless to say I stood in the parking lot for almost an hour with the owner; a great guy named John, and talked about Mogs, 4x4’s and 4-wheeling. He explained how he had just recently purchased this rig and was working out a plan to make it into a camping exploring rig for him and his family. It’s a massive machine but it has a diesel engine, but only puts out between 150 and 200 horse. However the Mog transmission and portal axles can use that amount of power wisely with tons of gearing. He said it’s not the fastest truck on the highway, but it does ok, and when I finally headed home I was pretty sure I needed a Unimog. Yep I definitely need a Unimog.
