This morning we attended a press conference at Suzuki headquarters in Brea, California for a second look at their new mid-size truck, the Equator.
We wanted to give you a quick glimpse of what's to come from Suzuki. The truck is based on the Nissan Frontier with different styling and a new frontend, and it will be available with different up-level trim packages, and will be built alongside the Frontier at the Nissan plant in Tennessee. You might be asking yourself, why a Suzuki truck? Suzuki felt that since the company sells millions of motorcycles and ATV's they thought the truck would be a great way for brand loyal customers familiar with Suzuki products, to haul recreational machines.
The truck will be available with a 2.5L inline-four cylinder or optional 4.0L V-6 engines. The four-cylinder version of the truck is available with automatic or manual transmission, and the six-cylinder engine is available with a five- or six-speed manual transmission. The 2.5L will be available as a 4x2, and the 4.0L will be available as a 4x2 or 4x4. The 4x4 models feature a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system, and a part-time, two-speed transfer case. The trucks will also be available in extended cab and crew cab body styles. The folks at Suzuki also mentioned that the truck has a 6,500 lb tow-rating and will carry a 7 year/ 100k warranty. We aren't quite sure if the cool flat green paint will be available to consumers, but we hope it is!
