It's almost midnight local time, we have been on the road for 14 hours today, and I am completely exhausted. So there is my excuse, if this blog is incoherent and poorly punctuated that is why, so shut up.
We left our hotel early this morning, around 9 o'clock (ok, that's early for me) and headed out for the open road. Fred, who we found out was holding out on us, handed over his Sirius satellite radio receiver (see, Fred has no radio in the Army Truck to use it and we have not satellite radio in the Cruiser) for us to use in the vast nothingness that we were driving through. (no, that's not a hint, most of the country is empty so we could be anywhere) Turns out the joke was on Alan and I though as Fred's receiver proceeded to display nothing but "Acquiring Signal" for a solid five hours before we gave up on it and returned to the world of FM radio.
That's pretty much how our day went, that is until Fred's Army Truck decided it didn't want to go on UA anymore and ceased forward movement on the highway in the middle of nowhere. Upon investigation we think it's either the input shaft on the trans that's broken, or something in the transfercase. (we'll know more tomorrow) Lovely. Luckily for us though a couple of the invited readers happened to be a few miles behind us and happened to have a two car trailer with only one car on it. So after a little juggling of vehicles (put the two trail rigs on the one trailer and the Army Truck on the other one by its self) we were back on the road.
And that puts us where we're at now. The readers had planned to push on through the night to the final destination and with Fred's rig in tow he headed with them. Alan and I however, being of semi sound mind (and sick of dodging dear on the interstate) have pulled off and found a motel to camp out at. We'll be back at it in the morning after a good sleep and a warm breakfast. See you guys tomorrow!
PS... I've included some photos as hints to where we're at... good luck...
