The scratch-built Scrambler

I thought I’d introduce you to a project I have slowly been working on for the last few years.

I can't wait to fill this Jeep with adventure gear and hit the trail.

We all have the one ultimate adventure vehicle we would like to build and this one’s mine. Scott Arntz at Extreme Gear in Orangevale, California, has helped with most of the build, but hopefully, within the next couple of weeks I can get in the shop and start wrenching on it. I’d like to get it up and running before the winter wheeling season starts here in the desert. This is my version of the Jeep Scrambler, and so far the list parts that we’ve managed to bolt together, an Aqualu aluminum tub, AFW (now Throttle Down Kustoms) mandrel bent CJ-8 frame, Dynatrac Axles, Currie J-arm suspension, 5.9L engine from a Dodge truck, STaK 2-speed Monster box, 4-sped automatic transmission, Painless Wiring, and a 31.5 gallon Safari fuel tank from Gen-Right. There is too much to list, but you can read about the build and everything else that it’s going to take to the scratch-built Jeep up and running.

This 5.9L Dodge engine from a salvaged truck should have more than enough power to get this CJ 8 moving.
