Are engine swaps worth the hassle or is it better to just buy a truck with the engine you like and build from there? I’m on the fence as there are a ton of engine and truck combos that I would love to see put together (Duramax-JK, Ranger with a Toyota Supra engine, etc… So, do you purchase the look or the power?

1. First you need to ask yourself, "Self", how attached tam I to the truck?? That would be my biggest factor in deciding an engine re-powering. Now are you talking about your Ranger?? Then get off the fence and do the engine swap!!

3. Late models, buy it with the engine you want. Older trucks, swap in the most ridiculous engine you can physically fit. That's my idea anyway..

4. For me my 1988 toyota vortec 3.5 engine swap was a concept with lots of advantages... My old truck with 3X the power, same gas mileage as the old 22re, reliability, cleaner exahust and all the creature comforts available in stock form from the host engine (power steering pump, a/c compressor, heater outlets). I could have bought a colorado with the same engine but the yota has more aftermarket options in every way possible (suspension, bumpers, body kits, transfer case, axles) not to mention all the toyota clubs and people using the same truck to build rock crawlers. A direct answer to your question... I would rater do another toyota engine swap and join the crowd than build a rock crawling suspension on a clolorado and be on my own.

Its a classic!!!

5. real trucks are built not bought... some of the trucks that we would like don't have the engine we want for an option... a suburban with a decent diesel... some things just aren't available the way we would like them... so we build them... and the blood sweat and tears we pour into them make them that much more worth it...
