Meet and greets are a great part of the off road community as it gives like minded enthusiast that are usually all from the same area a chance to know one another and often times it’s a great way to find a new wheeling buddy. Recently I stopped by a JK event that I happened to be close to and checked out a few of the rigs as they played on the RTI ramp at the back of the host shop. I even snuck one of the 4x4 Of The Year contenders on to see how it would match up, and suffice to say, it’s no match for the JK in the flex department. 1. Is this the same JK-forum recently discussed on the Fourwheeler Blog?

2. I was told, since I had a Poly Performance lift kit and a sticker from my local club on the back, that I wasn't welcome.

Something to do with the fact that the owner of that forum is very restrictive on what companies and such you can discuss or show pictures of.

A more open event and open attitude would be welcome

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with them. I don't really get on other boards sites since I am usually slammed with so many other things. I've heard that some boards can be strict about stuff like that, but I guess that's their choice.
Feel free to post anything you like in our forums! I know the crew at Poly and they make great JK stuff for sure.
I don't know much about his site, but I just saw all the Jeeps there and everyone was very friendly and enthusiastic about their Jk's. This blog was meant to be more about promoting more meet and greets than his website. I just wasn't able to take many pictures so I figured if anyone wanted to see more they could by clicking the link since the sites owner was nice enough to send me the direct link.

Like I said before I don't get over to FW much. I'd rather not get mixed up in some sort of "which board is better war" but in person the owner of the site was extremely nice and seemed very intelligent about JK's. Best of luck to both sites!

6. WOW! I am surprised this is up here, I guess Peterson's is a "sponsoring vendor" I love this mag and i am subscribed and that is no BS. What is BS is Eddie's website. I have NEVER seen anything like it in my life, come over and check out jkowners.com, after all there big brother is pirate4x4, how can you go wrong?

To all of my knowledge Petersen's is not a sponsoring vender. Thank you for subscribing and for your continued support for the magazine. Pirate has been around a long time and I am sure that if jkowners is a part of their umbrella they will likely do well. Like I said originally, the purpose of this blog was meant for this to be more of a meet and greet blog, and not about JK boards.

I read Shawn's blog and being a magazine editor I know the frustration one can have when he or she feels like their words are being used out of context or misinterpreted.

Once again, I wish everybody would just come and talk about their JK’s here :)

There seems to be a lot going on in the FW blog and I think Shawn may have opened himself up to a more aggressive ridicule when he appeared in an advertisement that endorses RE’s long arm kit for the JK. I personally am not a big fan of radius arms in a rock crawling environment, but I certainly can see them having their advantages in other arenas.

OK. Enough chit-chat about JK boards and somebody comment on my mad pumpkin carving skills.

You're right: we need more meet and greets... so, get to work! :) Mel and Lisa at Off Road Evolution always have their door open and throw some good Jeep parties. They are great folks that love the Jeep Life.

You were doing great job of being diplomatic until brought me in to this one with your "Aggressive Ridicule" comment. Dude, where did that come from? Just so you know, I haven't had any backlash for endorsing a product I believe in, in fact I do it all the time in Four Wheeler magazine, much as you do for 4WOR. If you want to ridicule me about it in person, I'll be in the office next week. ;0)

You shouldn't knock radius arms unless you have tried them. They are an excellent setup for a daily driver/weekend warrior type vehicle that doesn't spend its life on a trailer, and while they may not be the ideal setup for some specific terrains, they work amazingly well in many different environments.

And yes, Mel and Lisa are awesome!

11. of course eddie was super nice to you! he was hoping you would do something like you just did....mention his site in your magazine...

i too showed up to the party, but was turned away because i have a poly performance lift and shaffer's offroad tube fenders. I was told i wasn't welcom. eddie allows no mention of either company on his website.

at jkowners.com, there is none of the biased, political, paid-off opinions and discussion of all products is not only allowed, but encouraged!

Please understand that many people have been banned from jk-forum for merely mentioning the fact that they have products from non-paying vendors. In a country built upon freedom of speech, it flies in the face of being able to openly discuss products for one's vehicles free from fear of being banned because of mentioning the hated vendor of the week.

It's bad for the unaware members and it's bad for the industry and it's bad for the off-road sport overall. I've been a member of hundreds of different forums through the years and this is the only one I've encountered that bans members and discourages discussion pre-emptively. You can't discuss meet and greet opportunities using this as a good example without ridicule, whether expected or not.

Support the industry by not supporting this type of behavior.

The aggressive ridicule comment was not meant as a personal attack. I know every time that we write about a product in the magazine we are essentially endorsing the product’s manufacturer. I’m glad that there has been no negative backlash from endorsing R.E.’s kit and I know that they have a past filled with a reputable and out standing product line. I am in no way judging you for being in an add endorsing there product, but I am of the opinion that we as editors must be careful not to ever claim one product superior to all the rest, especially without first testing them all. Again, do not take this personal. And for those who do not know, Sean and I both have an office on the same floor and have known each other for sometime, he is a great family man and loves his job. We, just like many do, simply see things a little differently from time to time.

That being said I am still not a huge fan of front and rear radius arms. This does not mean I think that the RE kit is junk or dangerous; I am just stating my opinion about the way they work.

Long before I ever wrote my first article I worked as a fabricator and have always been an avid off road enthusiast. I remember working with a kid when I was in high school to create a F&R radius setup for his Grand Cherokee and after it was all said and done it worked well, but we found that an triangulated 4-link worked better for us in the long run. I have bolted and welded more suspension systems on over the past decade than I can even remember, and from each project I take some valuable piece of information that helps me elevate my skills on the next.

To all of you concerned about the jk-forum board: I do not have any ties to any board other than the one you are on now. It sounds as though how Eddie runs his site has really rifled a few feathers and I can definitely see from what you guys are saying how that would make you upset. Thanks for being so vigilant and remember that we (magazine editors) are just glorified off road enthusiast just like you. When I meet a person and they seem genuine and forthcoming I will remember them just as that, and it’s hard for me to instantly dislike someone that runs an internet forum that I know little about. Face to face, Eddy is a nice guy and I do not have any problems saying that. Now if you feel that he was only nice to me because of my status as an editor I completely understand, but I never had any deal with him about posting this up here with a link. I did it because I thought some people would like to check it out.

As most of you have figured out this was at Off Road Evolution owned by Mel and Lisa Wade, both amazing people and two very close friends of mine. I mention this strictly because I do not want there names to get mixed up with anything negative.

Thank you all for being so passionate to say what you feel is right as I think that’s what this country is all about.
