Would you rather stack rocks or winch? It’s a question I find myself asking a lot more of lately. It just seems that the rockier trail rides that I go on I am more likely to see someone stacking rocks and not even thinking about using their winch. Now there are plenty of obstacles that some feel the need to do both and nobody wants to drag their rig up a ledge via a winch, but something needs to change. I’m to the point where I feel like if you have to stack a bunch of rocks to conquer an obstacle, did you really even conquer it? Though a lot of people practice friendly and courteous rock stacking by putting the rocks back once they are done, a lot of people don’t and the trail really suffers because of that. We need to push the limits of our rigs and use the tools that we have. Can’t make it up? Try a new line. Still no luck, try and find a buddy to winch to. Just let the last thing you do be stack rocks and see how that changes the way you wheel.
Though we’ve all done it at one point or another just use your best judgment and have a safe and good time wheeling.
