If you have been watching the news for the last few days, you know that California has been battered by two winter storms. The deserts have received the most snow they have in a number of years, perhaps a decade or two.
I started to make my way from Orange County to the high desert around noon. By the time I hit the pass on Highway 62, which drops into Yucca Valley, it was closed. So I took the the best alternative route, and the most fun. There's a trail that skirts the highway around the mountains, and then drops into Yucca. Taking my chances, rather than spend the night in a hotel, I drove around the Highway Patrol check point and started snow bashing.
Amazingly I made it, by the skin of my ... teeth. It was a little intense, half way into the trail I took a wrong turn and wound up in dead end canyon with deep snow. Luckily I was able to snow bash my way out ... in reverse.
We have written that we are completely impressed with the Suzuki Equator, the little 4x4 truck has just surpassed our demanding expectations.
I also installed a set of 33-inch Hankook Dynapro MTs last week. The mud and snow tires worked exceptionally well in the deep snow, rarely losing traction. Awesome tire!
At the end of the trail I was met by a couple of the boys from West Coast Broncos. They were out exploring in thier built Jeep YJ. Small world!
