Ultimate Adventure 2010 is...

With the 2009 Ultimate Adventure in the books, we (the magazine crew) naturally begin thinking about what to build next year. And while we each have our own opinions on what we think is cool, neat, and different, there is always a group consensus that whatever we build needs to benefit both the reader and the magazine. Though there are many factors that decided what vehicle we choose, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have your 2-cent in the matter. So what do you think the 2010 Ultimate Chariot should be?

1. I am still waiting to see a Dodge UA vehicle. The 2nd generation Dodge trucks are built extremely well from the factory and are supported well from the aftermarket. They come with a heavy duty frame, 5.2L Magnum V-8 minimum all the way up to the mighty Cummins diesel, and are a vastly untapped resource in the offroad industry!! Not to mention you have built Chevy, Ford, Toyota, and Jeep, so it is only right that you build a Dodge!!!
No matter what you decide, I will be looking forward to UA '10 and hopefully entering!

2. How do most vehicles get chosen? When building a Newer UA truck, is the base vehicle a given by a manufacturer?

TurboSniper: Would the Rubi-Wagon count as a Dodge? I know it's a JK body, but over all I'd say it was deep down a Dodge. But you're right, it was not a Ram or Dodge name plate.

I'd lean towards a new gen Grand Cherokee; a H3 could be cool, or since it's a 'dream build' truck why not get something random or rare? Like one of those old mini-Thames trucks, a PowerWagon, or even get way out and build a FC150.

3. I would like to donate my '85 K5 Blazer to the build! You could pull out that gutless 6.2L diesel and put in the Banks Duramax crate motor. It already has a 14 bolt and 60 w/air lockers.

Or...I agree, it's time for a Ram with a built 12 valve.

Seriously though, there are more and more kj's out on the trail and more and more are going solid axle front. UA needs a Liberty int he mix to show the non believes that a soccer mom jeep can hang.

7. I personaly would like to see an older oddball suv of some sort. A mid 90's Nissan Pathfinder, a Ford Explorer, or something like that, something thats just not your typical build platform for an extreme offroader.

8. I think an oddball 4x4 would be sweet. Of course most of the mods/parts would have to be built, but it would make a cool build.

9. I like the idea of the Ram. A 12-valve would be cool, but very heavy, and need a fair amount of mods to get the performance that we like.

The H3 would be cool, but very pricy.

The KJ isn't a bad idea, but there are other UNI platforms that are way cheaper, and have better factory powertrains.

Keep the good ideas coming!

What do you guys think about Military vehicles....

10. Love MV (military vehicles).. I have been a member of www.steelsoldiers.com for quite a while. Maybe its the fact I was a mechanic in the Army for 8 yrs..
I was going to mention building a duece but figured it was too LARGE for what youll do. A M38, MUTT M151 ,a Gama Goat, a Mighty Mite, a M37, or a Unimog..
There is an old Dodge WC ambulance by my house that I see everyday that I think would make a cool camping/wheeling rig.
You'll already have the CUCV.. and probably an M715 around so why not add to the fleet and make it a UA Convoy...

13. i would like to see a 100" wheelbase linked with coils or airshocks samurai. you could do the 2.0 with automatic with a factory pre 96 tracker transfer modded and married to the factory t-case. put it on toys or waggy 44s and 37-42s. this is more a rig that one of your readers can afford to build(like me, this is what i'm building). zuks have been involved in the UA, but never the project vehicle. would go back to the concept of something the readers can build like the chevy stepside.

15. Unconventional is cool from time to time, but can also limit the benefit to the audience.
Think of it like this;
Say there are 8-millon of vehicle X roaming the streets and rusting in junkyards. But we choose to build vehicle Y that only had a limited production run and finding spare parts is like finding a woodchip from Noah’s ark, then it’s a tough sell.
That being said, if we could import something like a 4-door Ranger from Mexico, or late model Nissan Patrol from South America, I would be all about it!
