What a long crazy day. I guess it wouldn't be the ULTIMATE Adventure with out them though.
So where did we leave off...
Today we covered 1,1xx miles from our World Headquarters in Los Angeles California to our stopping point somewhere in northern Texas.
Along the way we recorded a new record for fuel mileage, just a tad over 20mpg in the mighty Equator. Not bad for being fully loaded down!
Speaking of loaded down... we've got so much crap in the truck for the two of us for our half month adventure it's not even funny. The back seat is stuffed to the brim with our camping gear, duffel bags, camera bags, laptops, and most importantly our ARB cooler. It's so tight we can't recline the seats. Lame. But whatever. What about the bed you ask? Well it's a crew cab mini-truck so there's not much bed to begin with and we've got it loaded with four Spyder Lock 20" wheels, a cooler, storage box for dirty camping gear, spare parts, tools, fluids ect, and all the other assorted crap that won't fit in the cab, like CB antennas.
Sounds like fun huh.
As if our adventure wasn't fun enough we had the pleasure of witnessing first hand a Ford Explorer having a blow out and the driver rolling off I-40 at 80mph, going over 4 times before landing on it's wheels. Ali promply pulled over and rushed to their aid as I took care of calling 911 for help and dealing with getting the emergency crews to us. Luckily the two little kids in the back seat were ok, but their mother, the driver, was pretty busted up but alert and talking with us as the medics arrived. Out of respect we aren't going to post any photos of the vehicle just yet, but you'll get the picture from what we do post.
This happened just out side of Texas in New Mexico. After getting into Texas we promptly had a meeting on the side of the highway with one of Texas' finest. He was concered about the proximity of our nose to the car in from of ours bumper, or so he said. Really he was more interested in the goofy plates from California. He let us go with a warning and a reciept.
From there it was smooth sailing to our final destination. On tap for tomorrow is another 1,000 miles of driving so we're off to bed.
Any clues where we are? If you see us on the road be sure to say Hi! We've got 4WOR goodies for you when you find us!
So, how do you like our updates? Worth doing? Anybody care? Let us know!
