I'm sure everybody remember the Ford Bronco concept from a couple years ago. It was big, mean, and we wanted it. Well Ford is at it again and we've just gotten a hold of these exclusive first shots of the all new 2012 Ford Flex FX4 concept.
Think Bronco, only longer. The Ford Flex is already a great family vehicle with plenty of seating for the kids, four large doors, lots of storage, great power from it's EcoBoost engine, and even a fridge to keep your beverage frosty. But until now the Flex has been relegated to family camping trips and soccer practice thanks to its low ground clearance and car like demeanor. In steps the Flex FX4.
Fitted with Super Duty running gear the Flex FX4 sports a robust Dana 60 front axle and Sterling rear. The rear axle is loaded with the same electronic locking differential as the new 2011 Super Duty and is able to be run in all modes similar to the F-150. The front differential was left open, but that's an easy fix. Transfercase is a Borg Warner 1354 sourced from the Ranger FX4 and comes with a 2.72:1 low range, not quite the 4:1 the Rubicon has but hey we can't have it all I guess.
The Flex FX4 carries the same Hill Decent Control feature found on the Raptor, comes equipped with a front winch bumper and Warn winch and a rear bumper with optional tire carrier. Rolling stock appears to be 35-37" in diameter, though nothing official has been said yet.
With its long wheel base, good power, and solid axles we are really excited by this sick crossover!
