I spent the weekend there for Labor day and if you live close you should definitely go there. The dunes are only open until late October so head that way soon. In fact next weekend is a great time to go because they are holding the annual apple festival in the local town along with a bar-b-que competition. Silver Lake is a great destination for the whole family.
