Period Correct Flatfender revival

Jeff's jeep and Grill Cheese

My friend Jeff is a Jeep-Guy.  He really wants to live his boyhood dream of driving across the Rubicon in a period correct flatfender Jeep.

So he just brought this orange beauty home.  Jeff is doing what many of us do.  Somewhere in our past there is a Jeep or truck, or buggy or whatever that really influenced how we view 4-wheeling.  Jeff wants to relive that dream, so much so that he tracked down the jeep that his dad used to go 4-wheeling in back when Jeff was just a little tyke (or something along those lines).  Jeff will argue for ever about how this is the correct era of jeeping, (something like pre 1981 or so) because it was the start of the upgrades, but not too extreme, blah blah blah.  Mostly it's the correct era because it's the era of his first memories of 4-wheeling, and for you it may be different. (either that or some sort of midlife crisis, but we won't go there) So post up the most influential 4x4 to your 4-wheeling hobby.  The one that really got you started in all this fun.
